ICMR Medical Device and Diagnostic Mission Secretariat (MDMS) — NIRMAN-AT special call to establish Centres for Advanced Research developing affordable, accessible, safe and regulatory-compliant assistive technologies. Official revised call dated 14 October 2026. Proposals should cover an indicative portfolio of 5–8 assistive technologies over a five-year roadmap, potentially spanning mobility, prosthetics, vision, hearing, communication, independent living and accessible digital devices. The CAR budget can be up to INR 15 crore over a maximum five years, contingent on evaluation and allowable ICMR extramural heads; not an automatic award.

Eligibility: Investigators from institutions eligible for ICMR Extramural Research; PI must be regular faculty/scientist with substantial relevant health-technology, clinical rehabilitation or biomedical engineering experience. A multidisciplinary clinical/engineering team, access to end users and existing institutional infrastructure are required; at least one co-PI from the PI’s institution is mandatory. Collaboration with startups, industry, hospitals or user organisations is encouraged, but does NOT mean they can apply as unrestricted independent NGOs.
